Job Description

As a Nurse Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing health service units and sub-units within hospitals, aged care, and community health care facilities. Your primary focus will be on managing nursing staff, financial resources, and ensuring the provision of safe, cost-effective nursing care within specified fields or units. You will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, objectives, and clinical standards while fostering a culture of continuous professional development among the nursing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and objectives for nursing care within the unit.
  • Provide visionary leadership to achieve organizational goals related to quality, safety, and risk management.
  • Coordinate the allocation of human and material resources, including recruitment, human resource management, and budget preparation.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility and effective financial management within the unit.
  • Monitor and control the performance of nursing and support staff within the unit.
  • Provide guidance and support to enhance the professional development of nursing staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to nursing care, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in nursing to inform policy updates.
  • Initiate studies and evaluations to assess the effectiveness of nursing services, considering objectives, costs, and patient care outcomes.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall performance of the nursing unit.
  • Foster positive working relationships with community agencies, health providers, and educational institutions.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance patient care and community well-being.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Maintain open and effective communication channels within the nursing unit and with external partners.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and professional codes of conduct.
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans to address potential crises or unexpected events affecting nursing services.

Skill & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Valid nursing license and relevant certifications.
  • Proven experience in nursing leadership or management roles.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
